Erdenes Tavantolgoi JSC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Erdenes Industrial and Technology Park LLC to reprocess waste coal from its Coal Preparation Plant and produce value-added products.
The Coal Preparation Plant processes 10 million tonnes of coal annually, generating around 1 million tonnes of waste. Joint trials carried out by Erdenes ITP LLC in collaboration with researchers from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology confirmed that reprocessing this waste could yield 200,000–300,000 tonnes of enriched coal. Based on these findings, a feasibility study for building a waste coal reprocessing plant has been prepared, with commissioning planned for 2026.
Once operational, the plant will enable Erdenes Tavantolgoi JSC to transform waste into value-added products, positioning the company as a mining enterprise committed to a zero-waste approach and sustainable economic development.
