Representatives of diversified miner Anglo American PLC were in Mongolia recently to explore the possibilities of investing in coal and copper assets in the country. The delegation led by James Harman, the company’s head of business and development affairs, called on Mining Minister D. Gankhuyag on 8 September, who explained how the new Minerals Law “has created a more favourable legal environment for foreign investments.
Earlier, the visitors had met the President’s chief advisor, P. Tsagaan, who told them that cooperation with Mongolian firms and the government would be key to their success here. “Any foreign-invested company will be welcome here and will face less difficulty if it supports national companies, purchases their products and services and hires Mongolians,” Tsagaan said.
