MONGOLIA’S COAL EXPORTS HIT RECORD HIGH IN SEPTEMBER: OVER 9 MILLION TONS SHIPPED

By B. Tugs

According to the General Customs Administration of Mongolia, the country’s coal exports reached approximately 58.4 million tons in the first nine months of this year — nearly the same level as during the same period last year, down by just 1.3%.

On a monthly basis, however, Mongolia set a new all-time record in September, exporting 9.03 million tons of coal nationwide.

Despite the record-high export volume, export revenues have fallen sharply. During the first nine months of 2025, coal export earnings totaled around US$3.93 billion, representing a 41% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. The decline is mainly attributed to lower global coal prices.

Nonetheless, coal prices have shown signs of recovery in recent months, driving up the average selling price of exports. In August, the average export price stood at US$56.8 per ton, rising by 8% in September to US$61.3 per ton.
