Coal export is to reach 19.5 million tons in 2016, significantly more than in 2015, according to annual plans submitted by 47 coal mines to the Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia.
In 2015, total extraction was 23.9 million tons, of which 22.125 million tons were sold. Of this, 14.467 million tons were exported and the other 7.6 million tons were used inside the country. Domestic consumption was quite as expected and exports fell short of estimates by just about half a million tons.
The resumption of extraction in East Tsankhi adds 5 million tons to the projection for 2016. According to Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi JSC, the West and East Tsankhi mines are together expected to export 12 million tons of coal.
