Erdenet Mining Corp. is 36 years old and its management has started planning for the day the mine’s reserves are exhausted. Machinery and equipment will have to be disposed of, but the most urgent problem would be proper rehabilitation of the mining area, or the pit. Director Ts. Davaatseren has revealed that one suggestion is to convert the mine into a national mining institute and laboratory, but there is more enthusiasm about the idea to turn the pit into a lake. This could be used as a water park in the summer and as a sports complex in the winter, equipped to hold international tournaments, including auto rallies.
