Big coal projects planned for Inner Mongolia

The Regional Development and Reform Commission has scheduled a bunch of new coal projects with coal output capacity totaling 53 million tonnes to be launched in Inner  Mongolia, one of China’s major coal production bases, in 2011.

According to the local government development plan, Inner Mongolia will continue effort in eliminating outdated coal production capacity and promoting technological renovation and it plans to launch eight large modern coal projects in 2011.

Inner Mongolia will also step up developing coal chemical industry including coal to liquid, coal to gas, coal to olefin, coal to dimethyl ether and coal to ethylene glycol. Designed newly added production capacity includes 5 million tonnes of urea, 3 million tonnes of dimethyl ether and 1.5 billion tonnes of polyvinyl chloride. As one of China largest coal production bases, Inner Mongolia has about 1.2 trillion tonnes of coal reserves including 700 billion tonnes of proved reserve. In recent years, its coal output steadily grew up which topped 700 million tonnes in 2009.
